In 1996 a plane from the United Arab Emersaries had trouble and had to make an emergency landing at Lake Colby. It's propeller fell off. There is a $5000 reward to anyone who can find it. The Adirondack Woods are so big that no one has claimed it yet.

Catch 22

Iron Mining was once a big industry here. However it became Cheaper to mine it elsewhere and the companies here closed down. The problem is the Iron Ore here is contaminated with Titanium. So why don't we mine Titanium? Because it's unprofitable it's contaminated with Iron

Man's Best Friend

The Adirondack Park is one of the most dog friendly park anywhere. You can bring your dog pretty much anywhere with no problem. However The Adirondack Mountain Reserve does not allow dogs on their property. If you bring your dog you will be arrested for trespassing. There are 5 peaks above 4000' which are very difficult to reach without going through the AMR which explains why there are only 2 dogs that are recognized 46ers

A Good Bluff

If you walk on some of the trails in certain areas from the woods you will sometimes hear a rattling sound. This is not the elusive Timber Rattlesnake, It's actually the common Red Squirrel. The Red Squirrel makes this sound to scare off predators and to warn other squirrels of danger. Timber Rattlers will flee first and won't rattle until you are right on top of them. It's fun to trick your friends from the city into believing that the woods are full of rattlers instead of a harmless squirrels.

We pay some guy $125,000 a year for this!

Q  What Exactly is an International Trade Parc?

A   It's a Euphemism for Deserted Air Force Base. Don't we feel better.

Everybody cram in
