Phobos Phun
Files
1) Phobos Phun - Double eclipse from Deimos
2017.sts
Just before Mars eclipses the sun, Phobos pops out from behind and eclipses
it first. Takes place between Scorpio and Sagittarius
2) Phobos Phun - Double eclipse from Deimos
2031.sts
Just before Mars eclipses the sun, Phobos pops out from behind and eclipses
it first. Takes place between Taurus and Gemini
3) Phobos Phun - Eclipse from Olympus Mons Jan
10 2068.sts
Eclipse from the highest mountain on Mars and in the solar system - Shown
at real speed
4) Phobos Phun - Phobos and Deimos from Opportunity
2004.sts
From the Opportunity landing site, Deimos transits the sun on March 4th and
a few days later on the 7th Phobos partially eclipses it. Deimos is at 2x
speed. Phobos is at real speed.
5) Phobos Phun - Occultation Earth
2084.sts
Phobos Occults the Earth on 8/12/2084, the same day earth is at its century's
brightest as seen on Mars. In real speed.
6) Phobos Phun - Occultation Earth and Jupiter
2048.sts
Phobos occultations of Earth are common, as are occultations of Jupiter.
But Occultations of both on the same day are very rare. Here's one that takes
place 1/23/2048. In real speed.
7) Phobos Phun - An almost quadruple eclipse from
Deimos 2027.sts
Takes place 10/08/2027 - As seen on Deimos, Phobos races ahead of Mars
and eclipses the sun, passes thru it and then retrogrades back towards the
sun and just partially eclipses it (only seen in the SH) again, then
Mars totally eclipses the sun, then as the sun passes thru Mars (Mars is
fixed in Deimos' sky) Phobos resumes prograde motion but unfortunately
just misses eclipsing the sun again. A quadruple eclipse is likely impossible
so this might be the closest thing, even a "true" triple where Phobos fully
passes thru the sun twice might also be impossible.
Instructions:
1) Download file
2) Extract the file
3) Run Stellarium 9
4) press M for scripts
5) Run file
General Notes:
******
For the scripts I picked the field of view I felt was best, but the field of view can be changed anytime during the run using the scroll wheel on your mouse
*****
Because Phobos orbits Mars at a high rate of speed, when view from Mars it's best to leave in real time
******
* If you want to have (and run) Stellarium version 9 in order to run scripts, but still want to have Stellarium 10 at the same time.
1) Download Stellarium 9 (You can get it at Stellarium's website)
If you don't have Stellarium 10 already installed goto step 4
2) Find the config.ini for Stellarium 10
In Windows XP it's located @
C:\Documents and Settings\yourname\Application Data\Stellarium
In Windows #!&* Vista it's located @
C:\Users\yourname\Appdata\Roaming\Stellarium
3) right click and rename the file tconfig.ini
4) Run the Stellarium 9 setup file
5) When running setup, Name the folder you extract the files to--> Stellarium9
6) Add the following to the shortcut on your desktop and/or start menu
--config-file config9.ini
So your shortcut should read
C:\Program Files\Stellarium9\stellarium.exe --config-file config9.ini
This necessary because the config.ini file is not compatible between the
2 versions
7) Rename the Stellarium 10 tconfig.ini file back to config.ini if 10
was already installed

Phobos Phun 2??
Hopefully I'll find a real quadruple or even a triple eclipse from Deimos or a time when the sun is eclipsed by both Deimos and Phobos at the same time.
